The CII Banaras Biennale is a city-wide cultural platform that takes Banaras as both setting and subject. Across visual art, textiles, craft, music, performance, scholarship and public programmes, the inaugural edition brings historical collections and living practices into conversation with contemporary artistic thought.
Rather than treating tradition as something fixed in the past, the Biennale asks how knowledge, forms and practices continue to be used, interpreted and transformed in the present. Museums, archives, workshops, institutions and public spaces become places of encounter — connecting the inherited with the newly made.
KASHI / LIGHT — City as Sensorium approaches Banaras through what can be seen, heard, touched, remembered and reimagined: a city shaped not by a single narrative, but by overlapping histories and continuing acts of cultural production.
